local Actors and Artists of Fayette County is seeking a strong tenor between the ages of 16 and 24 for the role of “Jack” in the AAFC production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods.” Solos include “I Guess This Is Goodbye” and “Giants in the Sky.” Production dates are March 13-16 at The Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Flatwoods Productions is seeking young men and women for its next musical “Snoopy.” The show will be performed March 28-30 at the Curfew Grange, Flatwoods. Needed are three men ages 16 to 25 and three women ages 16 to 25 and a small boy or girl to play the character of Woodstock, Snoopy’s little friend, the yellow bird. The show is similar to “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” giving a child’s perspective on life and the lessons people learn everyday. Rehearsals will be held mainly on weekends (Friday through Sunday) until the last week before the show. Members of the group will not be required to sing during worship services but will have the opportunity to do so about once a month. No previous choral experience is necessary. The Greater Uniontown Children’s Choir will accept new members for the 2007-2008 season this month. Any interested children may audition prior to choir rehearsal at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Students are asked to prepare the “Star-Spangled Banner” for the audition. The choir will hold rehearsals from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Third Presbyterian Church, 425 Union St., Uniontown. Rehearsals will continue through May 2008. The choir has performed at the state capitol in Harrisburg and the Maryland Children’s Choir Festival. In addition to its annual concerts at Christmas and in the spring, the choir performs for annual holiday events at Nemacolin Woodlands, Nemacolin Castle, Christian W. Klay Winery and private parties. Rock 4 The Heart will take place Feb. 22 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown. Local rock bands Payl, Maubus and Eteira will perform. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. The event will feature some great giveaways. It is co-sponsored by Spin It, www.howyouspinit.com, a Web site operated by the Herald-Standard newspaper.
The Greater Uniontown Chorale has begun rehearsals for its spring season. The painting courses taught by Patrick Daugherty are designed for all levels, from beginners wanting to learn the basics to advanced artists seeking individual instruction. Emphasis is on understanding color and traditional painting techniques. All styles from super-realism to abstraction are welcome. A step-by-step program is included for those new to painting. Tuition does not include materials. Students will provide their own painting supplies. Class size is limited. The plays will be read and judged by members of the 64 Crayons Writing Workshop. Final decision on production rests with the CCT Board of Directors. No more than two plays will be considered per playwright. A readers’ fee of $5 for one play or $8 for two will be charged, but playwrights will receive a share of the performance proceeds for any play produced by CCT. The fee will be waived if the author joins the writers’ workshop and participates in the production process. The third Egg Eggstravaganza will be held noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 24 at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Social Hall. This year, the Egg Eggstravaganza is being sponsored by local egg artists and the St. John’s Ethnic Crafts Club. The event will feature various egg artists, both local and out of the area, who will be displaying and demonstrating the various methods and styles of decorating eggs for the Easter season. Any interested egg artists are welcome to set up a demonstration/sales table for a nominal fee. There also will be a Lenten luncheon menu available for purchase. There is no admission fee. St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 185 E. Main St., Uniontown, will hold a dinner/dance with an “Ethnic Wedding Theme” in the church social hall on Saturday, March 29. The evening will include a dinner with ethnic-wedding type food and entertainment by the Dynasonics, featuring polka and dance music. There also will be a mock bridal dance and much more. A full night of entertainment will be offered. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by music and dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. There is an admission charge. The REP, Point Park University’s Professional Theatre Company, is accepting equity principal auditions by appointment for the upcoming production of “Eastburn Avenue,” a new musical with lyrics and book by Marcus Stevens, music and music direction by Douglas Levine and directed by Scott Wise.
