local Actors and Artists of Fayette County is seeking a strong tenor between the ages of 16 and 24 for the role of “Jack” in the AAFC production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods.” Solos include “I Guess This Is Goodbye” and “Giants in the Sky.” Production dates are March 13-16 at The Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Flatwoods Productions is seeking young men and women for its next musical “Snoopy.” The show will be performed March 28-30 at the Curfew Grange, Flatwoods. Needed are three men ages 16 to 25 and three women ages 16 to 25 and a small boy or girl to play the character of Woodstock, Snoopy’s little friend, the yellow bird. The show is similar to “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” giving a child’s perspective on life and the lessons people learn everyday. Clear Vision Drama Team of Springfield, Miss., will bring its blend of cutting-edge, relevant, ministry-minded dramas to Mt. Moriah Church in Smithfield as part of a countywide event focused on building and growing relationships in the community. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, and will continue until 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29. The Clear Vision Team has traveled throughout the country sharing its inspirational message through high-energy comedy, intense videography and impacting drama. The Greater Uniontown Children’s Choir will accept new members for the 2007-2008 season this month. Any interested children may audition prior to choir rehearsal at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Students are asked to prepare the “Star-Spangled Banner” for the audition. The choir will hold rehearsals from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Third Presbyterian Church, 425 Union St., Uniontown. Rehearsals will continue through May 2008. The choir has performed at the state capitol in Harrisburg and the Maryland Children’s Choir Festival. In addition to its annual concerts at Christmas and in the spring, the choir performs for annual holiday events at Nemacolin Woodlands, Nemacolin Castle, Christian W. Klay Winery and private parties. The Greater Uniontown Chorale has begun rehearsals for its spring season. The Chris Higbee Project (Chris Higbee of the former PovertyNeck Hillbillies) will perform a benefit concert for All Saints Regional School of Masontown. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the State Theatre Center for the Performing Arts in Uniontown. The painting courses taught by Patrick Daugherty are designed for all levels, from beginners wanting to learn the basics to advanced artists seeking individual instruction. Emphasis is on understanding color and traditional painting techniques. All styles from super-realism to abstraction are welcome. A step-by-step program is included for those new to painting. Tuition does not include materials. Students will provide their own painting supplies. Class size is limited. The plays will be read and judged by members of the 64 Crayons Writing Workshop. Final decision on production rests with the CCT Board of Directors. No more than two plays will be considered per playwright. A readers’ fee of $5 for one play or $8 for two will be charged, but playwrights will receive a share of the performance proceeds for any play produced by CCT. The fee will be waived if the author joins the writers’ workshop and participates in the production process. St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 185 E. Main St., Uniontown, will hold a dinner/dance with an “Ethnic Wedding Theme” in the church social hall on Saturday, March 29. The evening will include a dinner with ethnic-wedding type food and entertainment by the Dynasonics, featuring polka and dance music. There also will be a mock bridal dance and much more. A full night of entertainment will be offered. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by music and dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. There is an admission charge. The REP, Point Park University’s Professional Theatre Company, is accepting equity principal auditions by appointment for the upcoming production of “Eastburn Avenue,” a new musical with lyrics and book by Marcus Stevens, music and music direction by Douglas Levine and directed by Scott Wise. “What’s Selling in the Arts?” will be presented from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8 at the Greensboro Fire Hall. Creative Communities Conference will present the event. The Ligonier Valley Historical Society will host the 17th annual “Tastes of the Town” from 6:30 to 8:30 .m. April 3 at Mill Creek in Ligonier. Visitors will have a chance to learn the art of maple sugaring on Saturday, March 15, with the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation. They will discover historical and present-day techniques used to turn maple tree sap into 100 percent pure maple syrup during this tour of Mingo Creek Park’s “Sugarbrush.” The program will conclude with a pancake breakfast at the park office. Fluffy pancakes covered with pure Mingo maple syrup, sausage and a beverage will be served. Tours of the “Sugarbrush” will begin every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Shelter 6. Tours are limited to a maximum of 20 people per group. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation at 724-228-6867.
