Ballet Lafayette to present ‘Arabian Nights’ performance

2 min read

Ballet Lafayette will present its spring performance titled “Arabian Nights: An Enchanted Evening” at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown from 2 to 7 p.m. Jan. 26. The performance also will be presented at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at Metropolitan Theater in Morgantown, W.Va.; 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale; and 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Grand Theatre in Elizabeth.

“Arabian Nights” will tell the ancient tale of a courtesan who tells a prince fantastic stories so she will not be put to death when the sun rises the next morning.

One of the magnificent stories she tells is that of Aladdin and his magic lamp.

The story unfolds around a poor boy named Aladdin who finds a magic lamp with a genie that will grant him three wishes.

During the course of the story, Aladdin overcomes evil and wins the love of the beautiful princess.

“‘Arabian Nights Act 1’ is going to take the audiences into an imaginary fantasy, to a romantic country full of fun and exciting moments,” said Kelly Jenkins, director of Ballet Lafayette.

“Act 2 will bring the audience to the original 1001 Arabian Nights story of what happened to Princess Sheherazde’s after the very last story.”

Along with its spring performance, Ballet Lafayette is currently working on several fund-raising events, including the second annual “Dancing Under the Stars” fund-raising event that will take place on April 25. It will be held at the Summit Inn and will feature professional ballroom dance instruction from Luanne O’Brien, music by D.J. Jivin’ Johnny and a special performance by Ballet Lafayette members.

“Last year’s ‘Dancing Under the Stars’ event was a wonderful evening,” Jenkins said. “Everyone had a great time, and it was planned so well by Barb Struhar.

“If you are looking for a beautiful night out, this is the event to attend,” Jenkins added.

“The food, the entertainment, the dancing, the auction items and the people were terrific. We hope to wee another great crowd this year,” she continued.
