Flatwoods Productions looking for dancers
Flatwoods Productions is looking for about 10 additional dancer/singers for its production of “Footloose,” scheduled Aug. 8, 9 and 10. Flatwoods Productions will present the musical at the Curfew Grange building in Flatwoods (across from the cemetery). Curtain times will be 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. Dinner theater will also be available for an additional charge. For reservations call 724-366-7923. Needed are dancers ages 14 through 25. Also needed are several adults to play grown-up roles. Singers also are needed in all areas: soprano, alto, tenor and bass, with the ability to move well. Rehearsals are held at different times: evenings, afternoons and weekends. Those interested can call 724-366-7923 to schedule a time to join the cast.
“Footloose” originally was a film in 1984 that helped jump-start the careers of Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker, among others. It tells the story of Ren McCormack (played by Kevin Bacon), a teenager who was raised in Chicago. McCormack moves to a small town where the town government has banned dancing and rock music. Ren and his classmates want to have a senior prom with music and dancing. They must figure out a way to get around the law and the Rev. Shaw Moore (played by John Lithgow) who makes it his mission in life to keep the town free from dancing and rock music.
The movie was loosely based on events that took place in the tiny, rural farming community of Elmore City, Okla. Much of the film was filmed in Utah County. Footloose the Musical opened at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre on Oct. 22, 1998, and ran for 709 performances until July 2, 2000.
This year marks it’s 10th anniversary as a Broadway musical.
