Flatwoods Productions announces “The Secret Garden” on July 11-12. Performances will be held at the Curfew Grange building, located off Route 201 South and Buena Vista Road (across from the cemetery). Curtain times will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday. Dinner will be available before each performance with advance reservations of at least a day. This time, in addition to the usual choices of stuffed chicken breast or roast beet, the meal will presented as a “high tea” in keeping with the British tradition of the show. In addition to the regular items offered, soup, salad, entr?e, mashed potatoes, vegetable, beverage and dessert, the also will be scones (English biscuits) and cornbread and various cakes and cookies for dessert. The Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy has a few openings left in their Summer Experience 2008. Applications are available for enrollment in the summer theater school hosted by California University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Theatre and Dance. Participants will have the opportunity to study all elements of musical theater performance, including acting, voice and dance, in an intensive two-week experience on the Cal U. campus. Summer 2008 marks the 11th session of the program, which will conclude with a full musical. Last year’s “Honk! Jr.” was a romp through the duck yard. Beginning July 14 and ending July 26, students will attend classes and rehearse Disney’s “Alice In Wonderland Jr.,” which will be performed on July 26. Students between the ages of 8 and 17 may apply. Registration includes all scripts, music, costumes and lunch for each day of the school. There is a cost for each student, which includes a Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy souvenir T-shirt. A children’s choir will be needed for the upcoming All County Youth Musical production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to take the stage July 25-27 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown. About 20 children between the ages of 9 and 13 will comprise the choir. Auditions will be held at the State Threatre from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 18. 64 Crayons at Jozart Studios, 333 Second St., California, invites local writers to submit short plays, from eight to 15 minutes running time, for possible production as part of the 2007 season at California Community Theatre. The plays will be read and judged by members of the 64 Crayons Writing Workshop. Final decision on production rests with the CCT board of directors. No more than two plays will be considered per playwright. A readers’ fee of $5 for one play or $8 for two will be charged, but playwrights will receive a share of the performance proceeds for any play produced by CCT. The fee will be waived if the author joins the writers’ workshop and participates in the production process. The annual Quilt Show at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 132 Collier Road, Uniontown, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19. Exhibits will include needlework in addition to quilts. Quilting will be demonstration. A bake sale, craft sale and flea market will take place. Lunch, including homemade pies, will be available in the picnic pavilion. Quilts and other needlework will be judged in numerous categories, and ribbons will be awarded. The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life team “Ray of Hope” will hold a jammin’ for a cure day at the McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Department on July 12, beginning at noon. Admission is free. There will be bands playing all day, including Black Sunday, Radioactive, Blacklist and Daddylongleg. The event will feature food, refreshments, a 50/50 drawing and more.

Cruisin’ in the Park VI, a car, truck and bike show, will take place on Aug. 24 at Shady Grove Park in Lemont Furnace. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The show will take place from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The first 200 will receive 11-inch stand-up dash plaques and gifts. Phantoms Cruisers Fifth Annual Car/Bike Show and Swap Meet will be held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 6. Car show registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a registration fee for each vehicle. Vendor spaces are available. Spectators enter free. Dash plaques and goodie bags will be awarded to the first 200 vehicles. D.J. Arnie Amber will present music. The event will feature door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, games, food by Courtyard Catering and The Ice Creamery, Chinese auction and Kids Chinese auction. A bicycle will be raffled. Trophies will be awarded to the top 60 vehicles plus 10 special awards. Included in the special awards are two four-foot trophies – one awarded for the best of show and one for the largest car club. Uniontown Senior Citizens’ Monthly Dance titled “Moonlight and Roses” will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday at the Uniontown VFW Post 47 on West Main Street, Uniontown. The 29th anniversary dance will feature Dave Dahl’s Orchestra. The event will include square, round, line dancing, polkas, waltzes and other dances. California University of Pennsylvania and the California Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the eighth annual university/community Fourth of July celebration on Friday, July 4, at Roadman Park, located along Route 88 next to Adamson Stadium. Entertainment will begin at 7 p.m., as Brother Jeep and the M.V. Express will provide rock, rhythm and blues entertainment for all ages through his harmonica, vocal and D.J. talents. Brother Jeep or George “Jeep” Kyle of Belle Vernon is a Cal U campus police officer. At dusk, fireworks by Little Bit Shots Ltd., under the direction of Cal U alumnus Albert Knoblach ’88, will illuminate the sky with fireworks while Brother Jeep accompanies with patriotic songs. There is no admission charge, and the general public is invited. People can bring picnic provisions or purchase food and non-alcoholic refreshments at the Roadman Park concession stand. Ohiopyle State Park will offer a new interpretive program titled “Bike and Brunch” at 8:30 a.m. July 6. Along the way, bikers will discover some of the untold secrets of the bike trail. Bikers will meet at the Train Station in Ohiopyle. From there, they will be shuttled to Ramcat where they will begin to pedal. Pediodic stops will be made and bikers will walk off the trail to discover some sites. There is a cost. Pre-registration is required. The registration deadline is 4 p.m. July 3.
