local Flatwoods Productions will present the musical comedy “High School Musical” on May 10-11 and May 17-18 at the Curfew Grange, which is located at the corner of Buena Vista Road and Route 201 South in Flatwoods across from the cemetery. The curtain time is 8 p.m. Saturdays with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sundays. Dinner theater also is available at 6:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. for the matinee. Reservations are needed for dinner theater. Dinner theater includes a choice of either stuffed chicken breast or roast beef, soup, salad, potato, vegetable, rolls and butter, beverage (soda, coffee or tea) and vanilla ice cream. There is a cost. For an additional charge, guests may upgrade their desserts to chocolate cake, trifle or cheesecake. Any interested children may audition prior to choir rehearsal at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Students are asked to prepare the “Star-Spangled Banner” for the audition. The choir will hold rehearsals from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Third Presbyterian Church, 425 Union St., Uniontown. Rehearsals will continue through May 2008. The choir has performed at the state capitol in Harrisburg and the Maryland Children’s Choir Festival. In addition to its annual concerts at Christmas and in the spring, the choir performs for annual holiday events at Nemacolin Woodlands, Nemacolin Castle, Christian W. Klay Winery and private parties. The second annual Fayette Friends of Animals car, truck, bike and tractor show will take place June 15 at the Fairchance Volunteer Fire Department on Route 857. The top 50 trophies will be awarded for best car, best truck, best bike and best tractor. The event will feature food, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and a Chinese auction. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 vehicles registered. Registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a registration fee for each vehicle. The Beesontown Singers will present a concert May 12 in honor of this year’s National Road Festival. The concert is intended to set the tone for the week’s activities and to present a sampling of the various styles of music popular during the 18th and 19th centuries when the westward bound wagon trains traveled the old National Road through Fayette County. The concert is free and open to the public.

“Stand Fall and Walk for Strong Bones,” a three-mile walk and health fair to benefit local women in need of bone health care, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon May 10 at Mount St. Macrina on Route 40 in Uniontown.

The plays will be read and judged by members of the 64 Crayons Writing Workshop. Final decision on production rests with the CCT Board of Directors. No more than two plays will be considered per playwright. A readers’ fee of $5 for one play or $8 for two will be charged, but playwrights will receive a share of the performance proceeds for any play produced by CCT. The fee will be waived if the author joins the writers’ workshop and participates in the production process. Cruisin’ in the Park VI, a car, truck and bike show, will take place on Aug. 24 at Shady Grove Park in Lemont Furnace. The first 200 will receive 11-inch stand-up dash plaques and gifts. D.J. Terry’s Tunes and Pickle Radio will be featured. The event will include food, door prizes, a 50/50 auction and a Chinese auction. Golf carts will be available on side. Camping is available. Corvettes and Jaguars at Linden Hall, the 15th annual participant-judged show, will be held on the grounds of Linden Hall Resort in Dawson on June 1. Show registration will be held between 10 a.m. and noon. A registration fee will be collected at the gate for all show cars.

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 cars registered. Awards will be presented to 40 “best of the decade” winners.

A salute to limited-edition models of Corvettes and Jaguars will be the show theme. Food and drink will be available at Linden Hall. Fayette Friends of Animals is asking for Purina puppy and kitten food donations at the event. Show sponsors are the Laurel Valley Corvette Club of Uniontown and the Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh.

The Addison Volunteer Fire Department in cooperation with the Confluence Lions Club will sponsor the first annual parade during the National Chainsaw Carving Festival at 7 p.m. June 13. The fire department is in need of sponsors to help with the purchasing of trophies and cash awards for the parade winners, including bands, twirlers, float entries and fire departments. Trophies and cash awards will cost about $800 to $1,000. Anyone who is interested in being a sponsor is asked to contact the Addison Volunteer Fire Department, Parade Committee, P.O. A 1950s and ’60s oldies dance featuring the legendary D.J. Jeff Allen will be presented the Brownsville Sons of Italy on June 7. Food and a cash bar will be available during the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Brownsville Sons of Italy charity funds. Hopwood will celebrate the National Road Festival on May 17. Flowers, flea markets and food will be available along Route 40. The crowning of Hopwood royalty will be followed by the dedication ceremony for the recently completed sidewalk project and walking route and the annual parade.

A fishing derby for children 12 and younger will begin at 3 p.m. at Hutchinson Park, followed by a vintage baseball game at 6 p.m.

New Salem Volunteer Fire Department will hold its hog roast and fourth annual car and truck show June 29. Dash plaques and goodie bags will be awarded to the first 150 entries. There is no entry fee. Donations will be accepted. Trophies will be awarded. This will be a judged event.

The event will feature a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, door prizes and music by Back in Time. Pork sandwiches will be served. Refreshments will be available. Parking will be available in the grass. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will benefit the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department.

The REP, Point Park University’s Professional Theatre Company, is accepting equity principal auditions by appointment for the upcoming production of “Eastburn Avenue,” a new musical with lyrics and book by Marcus Stevens, music and music direction by Douglas Levine and directed by Scott Wise.

Creative Communities Conference will present the Second Saturday Series from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 in the Greensboro Fire Hall on Front Street. The guest speaker will this seminar will be Darlene Urban Garrett, community development manager for the Department of Economic Development for Greene County.
