A grants workshop will be held from 3 to 5:15 p.m. June 12 at Touchstone Center for Crafts in Farmington. Sponsored by the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area (www.riversofsteel.com) and led by Julie Throckmorton-Meunier, cultural resources specialist, the workshop will focus on grants of interest to folk and traditional artists; cultural arts and heritage organizations; festival committees; traditional performing and visual arts groups; and historical societies. Grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Pennsylvania Heritage Parks Program, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and the Carnegie Library’s Foundation Center will be discussed. Also, special guest Clara L. Pascoe, executive director of the Community Foundation of Fayette County, will discuss the PCA Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts – Project Stream Application. The top 50 trophies will be awarded for best car, best truck, best bike and best tractor. The event will feature food, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and a Chinese auction. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 vehicles registered. Registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a registration fee for each vehicle. 64 Crayons at Jozart Studios, 333 Second St., California, invites local writers to submit short plays, from eight to 15 minutes running time, for possible production as part of the 2007 season at California Community Theatre. The plays will be read and judged by members of the 64 Crayons Writing Workshop. Final decision on production rests with the CCT board of directors. No more than two plays will be considered per playwright. A readers’ fee of $5 for one play or $8 for two will be charged, but playwrights will receive a share of the performance proceeds for any play produced by CCT. The fee will be waived if the author joins the writers’ workshop and participates in the production process. Cruisin’ in the Park VI, a car, truck and bike show, will take place on Aug. 24 at Shady Grove Park in Lemont Furnace. The first 200 will receive 11-inch stand-up dash plaques and gifts. D.J. Terry’s Tunes and Pickle Radio will be featured. The event will include food, door prizes, a 50/50 auction and a Chinese auction. Golf carts will be available on side. Camping is available. Uniontown Senior Citizens’ Monthly Dance titled “Moments to Remember: A Salute to Our Veterans” will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday at the Uniontown VFW Post 47 on West Main Street. The Bill Francis Orchestra will provide music. The event will feature round, line dancing, polkas, waltzes and other dances. Refreshments and door prizes are planned by the committee. Pechin Car Cruise will be begin at 5:30 p.m. every Friday through Oct. 24, which is the Halloween cruise. The event will feature a D.J., 50/50 drawing, food and door prizes.

Phantoms Cruisers Fifth Annual Car/Bike Show and Swap Meet will be held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 6. Car show registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a registration fee for each vehicle. Vendor spaces are available. Spectators enter free. Dash plaques and goodie bags will be awarded to the first 200 vehicles. D.J. Arnie Amber will present music. The event will feature door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, games, food by Courtyard Catering and The Ice Creamery, Chinese auction and Kids Chinese auction. A bicycle will be raffled. Trophies will be awarded to the top 60 vehicles plus 10 special awards. Included in the special awards are two four-foot trophies – one awarded for the best of show and one for the largest car club. The Addison Volunteer Fire Department in cooperation with the Confluence Lions Club will sponsor the first annual parade during the National Chainsaw Carving Festival at 7 p.m. June 13.

The fire department is in need of sponsors to help with the purchasing of trophies and cash awards for the parade winners, including bands, twirlers, float entries and fire departments. Trophies and cash awards will cost about $800 to $1,000.

A 1950s and ’60s oldies dance featuring the legendary D.J. Jeff Allen will be presented the Brownsville Sons of Italy on June 7. Food and a cash bar will be available during the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Brownsville Sons of Italy charity funds. Admission will be limited to 250 people.

The REP, Point Park University’s Professional Theatre Company, is accepting equity principal auditions by appointment for the upcoming production of “Eastburn Avenue,” a new musical with lyrics and book by Marcus Stevens, music and music direction by Douglas Levine and directed by Scott Wise. Catholic Charities of Greene County will present a musical variety show for the entire family: “The 2008 Summer Follie!” The event will be held at 7 p.m. June 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg. The 2008 Summer Follies will feature musical and vocal acts, which showcase the talents of local performers.

Proceeds from the event benefit people who are served by Catholic Charities in Greene County with programs that include pregnancy and parenting support, counseling services, disaster assistance and emergency relief.
