Celebration called Love Fayette offered Aug. 26
Marshall Park in Uniontown will be the site for a special event called Love Fayette from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20.
“The purpose is twofold: to celebrate Fayette County and to share that celebration with our neighbors,” said the Rev. Jason Lamer, pastor of Faith Assembly of God. “We want to get to know our neighbors and for our neighbors to get to know us.”
Volunteers from the congregations of Faith Assembly of God and Abundant Life Church, both in Uniontown, will staff this free event and local businesses made donations or discounts.
There is a family fair, which will include inflatables such as a jump house, obstacle course and Velcro wall.
“It’s for families to play on. We are gearing much of what we have to families,” said Lamer. “We will also have children’s games, like ring toss, balloon animals and face painting.”
A tent will offer community services, such as health screenings, Dads Matter, Salvation Army, Careerlink, Crime Victims Center, Center of Hope and Fayette County Behavioral Health.
There will be concessions for food.
Love Fayette will also give away two global positioning system (gps) devices. Every family will receive a gift bag until they run out that includes a $20 gift card, devotional and a family activities guide of things to do that are free or inexpensive in Fayette County.
Lamer said, “Our main reason is to show our love for Fayette County – not just the place we live but the neighbors we live among.”
Transportation will be provided with shuttles leaving every half hour from three locations: WMBS parking lot on South Mount Vernon Avenue, Grant Street Park and Family Dollar parking lot on Gallatin Avenue.
