Joan Rivers wows crowd at the Meadows
The Meadows Racetrack and Casino will never be the same again now that Joan Rivers has performed for their summer concert series and the sold out crowd will certainly never forget half the offensive jokes she told that night.
It was a beautiful night for the outdoor event Friday night and Rivers was in rare form. The show started with the typical “rules” of the night which included turning off your cell phone, no photos, and then continued into a list of things that the audience couldn’t do like texting, Gmailing, Fmailing etc. etc. and then…. Joan kicked off the show cutting into the announcements with her witty humor and telling everyone they “might as well go home” before introducing “the best opening act in his price range” Brad Zimmerman.
It’s tough being the opening act for a legendary woman like Rivers, but Zimmerman really gave it his all. While I didn’t find him overly hilarious, he was a good start to the show. Some of his best jokes centered on his time as a waiter in New York City and the silly things customers will do to annoy the servers. Overall though, he was rather entertaining.
Rivers however, was killer on stage. It was my first experience with her uncut and uncensored and trust me when I say, no one is safe from her comedy hates which included everything from the elderly, to babies, to the handicapped people with squeaky wheelchairs. Oh and general people weren’t the only ones as she cut up on many of her celebrity pals like Oprah, Tom Cruise, Cher and the list goes on.
No one was safe from the wrath of Rivers and no matter how offensive she got, the audience loved every minute. Most of us spent the majority of the night with our mouth wide open in shock of some of the things said. Taking Rivers out of the television censored environment opens up a whole world where anything can and will be said. She holds nothing back!
In addition to the hating and celebrity bashing, Rivers also incorporated humor based on typical life like getting older or the ever popular comedic joke of public restrooms. One of my favorite (and printable) bits was where Rivers was sharing her joy of using the handicapped restrooms where she could easily do Pilates for free on the handlebars.
Additionally, Rivers shared the story of how her mother told her to never sit on a public restroom toilet and then proceeded to demonstrate how ladies go to the restroom placing a bunch of pieces of toilet paper on the seat carefully and then turning around only to have them blow off the seat. And then there’s assuming the “stance” in the stall, which was proudly demonstrated by Rivers on stage.
If you want a night of humor that really pushes the envelope on tasteful jokes (if there were any), Rivers was the show to see. She’s vulgar, offensive, hateful and most importantly hilarious on stage. She says what so many people think to themselves but won’t ever say and she does with true Joan Rivers style. I hope it won’t be the last we see of Rivers, it’s certainly the show to see!
