Local ministries plan Sept. 11 events

Two local events are planned in remembrance of the events of Sept. 11.

Grace United Methodist Church in Coal Center will host a Patriot Festival 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

?The free event will include live portrayals of influential Americans from the past, fun history games for children and free food donated by local businesses.

Under the Big Tent during the Patriotic Festival will be live vocal and musical performances during The Music of America, and Ed Boots will offer The Civil War Soldier’s Story and an interactive presentation: Remembering What Happened on 9/11/01.

A community worship service will be held at 6:30 p.m. under the big tent. Amazing Grace played on bagpipes will begin worship, followed by songs of America’s faith in God. The memory of the 2,740 Americans who died on Sept. 11 will be honored and prayers for our nation will be offered. Local first responders and all active and veteran military will be honored. Pastor John Smith will offer a message of faith and hope for America.

On Sept. 9, Common Ground Ministries of Broken Arrow, Okla., will play host to a 9/11 Public Memorial and Awake America Prayer Gathering at noon at the Fayette County Courthouse, Main Street, Uniontown. The Rev. Margaret Frey of Mountaintop Faith Ministries is the county coordinator for the event.

Features of the gathering will include music by Common Ground and other local musicians as well as local speakers.
