Holiday tour features Fairchance churches
Local residents are invited to enjoy the beauty of the season through a walking/driving tour of churches in Fairchance that begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Community Alliance of Christian Women is organizing this third annual tour, which shows off local churches as they are decorated for Advent and Christmas. The event is free of charge.
“It’s a good experience especially when we’re walking and we sing carols from church to church. It’s a wonderful community event,” said Rosella Collins.
Participants are able to see churches that are ready for the holidays with decorations that include trees and candles.
Collins said, “We stop at each church and they provide five to 10 minutes of entertainment – a choir or a little play.”
The tour schedule includes: Church of the Brethren, 17 Gallatin Ave.; Trinity United Methodist Church, 27 N. Main St; Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 135 N. Morgantown St.; First Baptist Church, 17 N. Morgantown St.; Free Methodist Church, 53 S. Morgantown St.; First Presbyterian Church, 114 W. Church St.; and Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, 50 N. Morgantown St. Most churches are within walking distance of each other.
A harpist will give a performance at Ss. Cyril and Methodist, which is the last stop. A social with refreshments will follow. People who plan to take the tour are asked to call ahead so an adequate amount of refreshments will be available. Call Rosella Collins at 724-564-0110 or Nan Chess at 724-564-2097.
