Westmoreland Historical Society plans 6th Winter Frolic
Westmoreland County Historical Society will hold the fourth annual “Winter Frolic — Celebrating Our Celtic Heritage” from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Greensburg.
Music will be provided by na Gales, an Irish group from the Pittsburgh area, which mixes traditional Irish tunes and songs with roguish Celtic rock. Members of the group include David Yates (tin whistle, button-box, bass, and guitar), Charles May (Celtic fiddle and mandolin), Gerard Rohlf (vocals and rhythm guitar), and Richard Henry (bodhran or Celtic drum.) Haley Rohlf will add a delicate and airy voice to some captivating Irish Ballads.
Susan Kozak of the Three Rivers Crossroads Ceili Studio will keep everyone on their feet with instruction in lively Irish folk dance. Between sets a Scottish piper will play and the Daehler sisters will entertain the crowd with a demonstration of Irish step-dancing.
A hearty hors d’oeuvre buffet of Scottish and Irish fare will be served by the Ernest Gourmet and The Supper Club. There will be a cash bar with a special Irish beer brewed for the occasion by All Saints Brewing Company. There will also be a vintage photographic display highlighting the contributions and daily life of Irish, Scots-Irish and Scottish ancestors and a basket auction.
Tickets are on sale. Proceeds will benefit educational programs of the Westmoreland County Historical Society. A bus will be available to shuttle Winter Frolic participants from the city garage on West Otterman Street to the plaza in front of the courthouse.
