“Women in Jazz,” a free presentation/performance by jazz flautist Galen, will be held at noon on March 18 at the Cultural Center in the Williams Building on the campus of Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

An oldies dance (record hop) will be held March 19 at the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s social center. The “All Oldies, Only Oldies” dance will run from 8 p.m. to midnight, with Jim “J.D. the D.J.” Dudas, host of Mon Valley Memories on WJPA in Washington, spinning music from the 1950s and 1960s. There is an admission fee per person and it will be a bring-your-own-everything event. The firemen will provide refreshments. Those attending the March 19 dance are being encouraged to bring mementos of those days from 50 years ago: high school pennants, varsity jackets, pictures, etc. to be displayed that night. All items will be returned to the owners. Attendance at the dance will be limited to 600. Reservations can be made at 724-330-5002.

“Spring Doo-Wop Spectacular!” will be held at the State Theatre Center for the Arts, 27 E. Main St., Uniontown, April 16. Lou Christie, Jay Siegel & The Tokens, The Marcles, The Knockouts, John Kuse & The Excellents and The Coda Band are scheduled to perform. Brownsville Area High School will present its annual spring musical, “The King and I,” at 7 p.m. March 10, 11, 12. Tickets are on sale. Ticket reservations may be made by calling Mrs. Hudak at 724 785-8200.

Actors and Artists of Fayette County will hold auditions for the musical “Quilters” from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale. Needed are seven women, ages 18-50. Bring a prepared musical selection and be ready for a cold reading from the script. Show dates are April 7-10. Other auditions can be arranged by appointment only at 724-887-6756.

McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an oldies dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 12 at the fire company social hall. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Disc jockey Arnie Amber of WMBS radio will play favorite oldies. The event is also BYOB with setups, beer and snacks provided by the fire company. Musical Mysteries & More and All Saints Regional School will present “The Tragic Demise of Alfred the Squatty,” an unusual suspect mystery dinner theater Feb. 12 at the All Saints Social Hall in Masontown. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:45 p.m. Dinner will include Italian baked chicken, roast beef, pasta marinara, oven roasted potatoes, green beans, salad and dessert. There will be a cash bar, a Chinese auction, and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets for this event are on sale. Tables can be reserved for parties of eight or 12. Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa will perform at the WVU Coliseum Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Local Morgantown alternative hip-hop artist Huey Mack will open the show. Tickets are on sale at the Mountainlair Box Office, ticketmaster.com and 304-293-SHOW.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce” returns to the WVU Creative Arts Center on March 6 at 7 p.m. Scheduled to appear are Great American Taxi – fronted by a former West Virginia University student – and Railroad Earth. Art created by Waynesburg University art faculty will be on display from Sunday through Feb. 18 at the university’s Benedum Fine Arts Gallery. An opening reception will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and the public may attend. The work of Susan Phillips, professor of art and chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Waynesburg University, and work by lecturers in art Susan Keresztury, David Lesako and Yoko Sekino-Bove, will be on display. In addition to their association with Waynesburg University, all four individuals are professional artists. The exhibit will encompass a variety of artwork, including pottery, clay sculpture, metal work, painting and drawing. Select pieces will be available for purchase. Greensburg Civic Theatre’s Greasepaint Players will hold auditions for the play “Hyronomous A. Frog (The Frog Prince)” from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 15 at Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road. Youth age 10 and up and adults are invited to audition with a cold reading from the script. Anyone wanting to audition for the lead role of Hyronomous must demonstrate ability to convincingly and comically move and act like a frog. The Pittsburgh Wine Festival will be held May 5. This year marks the ninth annual edition of the festival, which will be held in the East and West Club Lounges at Heinz Field, Pittsburgh.

The Nathanael Greene Historical Foundation is planning a three-day trip to New York City on May 13-15. The group will stay at the Sheraton Manhattan in Time Square and tickets are reserved for the 2009 Tony Award-winning musical “Memphis” for Saturday afternoon. Show tickets are optional. You will have free time to shop and visit the city.
