BOLTON VALLEY, Vt. (Feb. 8, 2011) – Feeling adventurous? The MVP Health Care Frigid Infliction makes its way to Bolton Valley on Saturday, Feb. 26, when those who are up to the challenge will participate in a 10-hour adventure race through some of the 5,000 acres that make up this ski resort just 30 minutes from Burlington.

Held by the Green Mountain Adventure Racing Association, this year’s event will feature several winter disciplines including navigation with a topographical map and compass, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, postholing (on food without snowshoes) and a Tyrolean traverse. Disciplines can appear in any order and multiple sections in the course may be used for each activity. The race starts and finishes at the Bolton Nordic Center and utilizes Bolton’s 100 km of Nordic and backcountry terrain.

According to GMARA, the Frigid Infliction Adventure Race uses an accelerated cutoff system which provides extreme challenge for experienced teams but also makes for a great race for first-timers. The past four years, this adventure race was the first adventure race for about a third of the participants. Teams do not need support crews. Outside of what is provided by the race organizers, teams must be self-sufficient.

At press time, 25 teams had registered for the event. Registration continues online at www.gmara.org.

Team registration is Friday, Feb. 25 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. with a free navigation clinic from 8 – 9 p.m. The race begins at 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, sharp. Registration includes a full gear check.
