WE MADE IT SUCCESSFULLY INTO 2011, AND I HOPE ALL OF YOU HAD A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

We made it successfully into 2011, and I hope all of you had a Happy New Year. I got to spend New Year’s Eve with some great friends, including my best friend since junior high, so it was certainly a wonderful way to enter into this new decade.

My new, latest activity that I am excited about, besides running, is skiing.

My husband and I and his whole family went skiing the day after Christmas at Nemacolin Woodlands, and what a great time we had.

It’s a great place for a fun, family afternoon and for beginner skiers that are just starting to get comfortable with skiing.

But, I’m sad to say that I was forced to retire my 1994 vintage skis that day when a piece of my binding cracked and flew off into the great unknown.

I was sad for about three minutes until my husband happily said, “That’s okay, we’ll just get you new skis.”

My frown was turned upside down. My new K2s should be here in a couple of days.

For some strange reason, I’ve been more active outdoors over the last couple of months, and you know what? It makes me feel really good.

The cold, crisp air on your face while you are running into the wind or racing down a mountain can really do wonders for your well-being.

However, the downside – I’ve been sicker than usual lately.

But, if getting healthier and in better shape is on your New Year’s resolution agenda, then make sure you check out our Health & Wellness Guide online on heraldstandard.com next week.

There are articles on healthy snacking at work, fitness boot camp, benefits of walking and some other great articles and tips.

And, as always, I love hearing from all of you.
