TRIO will aid students

The TRIO Education Opportunity Center will provide assistance to Laurel Highlands High School seniors who plan to attend college during planning workshops 6 p.m. Jan. 27 and Feb. 17 in room 159 at the high school.

Those attending will receive assistance in completing the Federal Student Aid application, a requirement for those attending college in order to receive federal, state and most campus-based aid programs for both grants and student loans.

Students and parents are asked to bring a copy of their 2010 tax return or final paycheck. Penn State applicants are encouraged to attend the January session. All information will be kept confidential.

Seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling Andrea Barchetti at 724-437-4741, Ext. 1129.

Champion school to host visit day

Champion Christian School will host a community visit day 4-7 p.m. Tuesdday at the Indian Head and Donegal campuses. Both facilities will be open for tours and staff will be available for questions. At 7 p.m., there will be a kindergarten readiness seminar for parents of students entering kindergarten in the fall 2011, regardless of which school they will attend. Parent-teacher conference day set

The second scheduled parent-teacher conference day in the Uniontown Area School District will be held Feb. 4 at all school buildings during regular school hours. On this day, there will be an early dismissal for students in kindergarten through grade 12 and lunch will be served before the dismissal in all buildings. Students will report to school at regular time.

The purpose of this parent-teacher conference day is to encourage parents and guardians to visit with their sons’/daughters’ teachers to discuss concerns, problems, etc.. All parents/guardians are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to visit the schools the afternoon of Feb. 4.

Elementary school dismissal times will be 11:50 a.m. Kindergarten Center; 12:05 p.m. Benjamin Franklin first group; 12:30 p.m. Benjamin Franklin second group; 12:05 p.m. Lafayette first group; 12:30 p.m. Lafayette second group; 12:15 p.m. Franklin, Menallen and A.J. McMullen; and 12:30 p.m. Marclay and Wharton.

Secondary school dismissal times will be 12:15 p.m. A.J. McMullen, 11:20 Benjamin Franklin and Lafayette, and 11:30 p.m. for the high school.
