Scottdale site for Leap for Life blood drive

1 min read

The annual Leap for Life blood drives, co-sponsored by Keymarket Radio and the American Red Cross Blood Services, will be held Wednesday at a site in Scottdale from noon to 6 p.m., at Southmoreland Middle School, 200 Scottie Way.

The Mount Pleasant Dairy Queen is donating coupons for a free ice cream sundae.

Lisa Hart, director, donor recruitment, Greater Alleghenies Region, Red Cross Blood Services, explained that about quarter of the blood region’s annual blood donations are given at Red Cross blood drives held at high schools, colleges and universities.

?”Donors of all types are needed daily; however, we currently have a critical need for donors with Type O Negative blood, the universal blood type, and also O positive, A negative and B negative blood types,” Hart said.

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia), meet height and weight requirements (at least 110 pounds based on height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. To schedule a blood donation appointment where available call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767) or go online to www.redcrossblood.org.
