Local library is embracing autumn and audio books

By Lynne E. Tharan 3 min read

For many, fall is their favorite time of the year. The summer heat has gone, the nights are cool for sleeping, and the leaves on the trees are brilliant. It’s like eye candy to keep us going through the cold, winter months.

My husband and I were in New England for six days last week and the weekend before — my home area — and have never seen the magnificent coloring that was present this time. Mother Nature combined many factors to bring it about this year.

While on our trip, we listened to two audio books and enjoyed one very much. The other was quite dreadful, but we stuck it out. Listening to a good book passes the time while on a long drive, and you can discover good authors you might not normally read in book format.

Through some memorials as well as a grant, we’ve added some new audio book titles, all on CDs, by the way. While we still have books on cassette, they are not used much, so we’re focusing on CDs. Stop in and review our collection.

Our Fall Story Times have begun and will continue through December at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Children’s Center. Each week until just before Christmas, Miss Dianne will welcome preschoolers for stories, crafts, finger play and a light snack. No registration is required.

Shortly, we will be announcing for public use, equipment for the visually handicapped patrons who need assistance reading documents or newspapers in smaller print, accessing programs to assist those with vision issues and generally making it easier to find information. We hope to have everything ready by early November, but watch this paper for information.

Were you aware that we can proctor exams for those who are required to have a test proctored? Colleges, businesses and other organizations often require you to take an exam that is proctored by a professional, and we can handle that here. We charge $20 to proctor your exam, and it must be prearranged through the library and occasionally with the university or person administering the exam. Keep us in mind if you need this service.

Come see us in the library, listen to a good book and bring a child to story time.
