The legendary Gil Snyder Combo from Pittsburgh will perform a special engagement at the Uniontown Holiday Inn at Harrigan’s Lounge Sept. 9 from 9 p.m. To 1 a.m. Snyder is a two-time Oscar nominee, a member of Pittsburgh Music Hall of Fame and played and recorded with Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, and “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen, among others. Joining Snyder will be the blues guitarist Tim Woods, who has just completed a southern tour featuring a performance at Morgan Freeman’s blues club in Mississippi and drummer/percussionist Robert “Jambo” Adamovich. The group will be performing blues favorites as well as cuts from the recently released album “Hip Shake.” The Holiday Inn is located along Route 40 in Uniontown. The Beesontown Singers and Uniontown Clergy Association will join forces on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. when they host a memorial service commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This special service of music and reflection, hosted by St. Peter’s Anglican Church of Uniontown, will honor the thousands of people who lost their lives that  September morning 10 years ago. The memorial service is open to all who wish to attend.

The Greater Uniontown Chorale will begin rehearsals at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. The chorale will be preparing for its fall/Christmas season with director William Shirer in charge. Any new members are welcome along with former members. Actors and Artists of Fayette County will be presenting the comedy “Dixie Swim Club” Sept. 8 -11 at the Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale.

The Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale is holding auditions for its November musical “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” Sept. 10 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Roles are available for boys and girls of all ages with lead roles available for ages 13-18. Seeking adults of all ages for speaking parts and ensemble. Applicants should prepare 16-32 bars of a classic or contemporary musical theater song. There will not be a dance component to the audition, but there will be cold reading and you may be asked to sing music from the show. Showdates are Nov. 17 – 20. The annual St. Hubert Heritage Festival in Point Marion will be held on Sept. 10 on the parish grounds following the 4 p.m. Polka Mass. Food booths and other booths will be open from 3 to 10 p.m. The Vibrations Polka band will play at the Mass and at 7 at the festival.

The Coal and Coke Heritage Music Festival will be held Sept. 10 at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. This year’s festival features a lineup of musical performers that will include Johnny Angel and The Halos, Harold Betters, The Stickers, NewLanders and more. The festival will also showcase The Coal and Coke Heritage Center, historic coal mining artifacts, a live blacksmith demonstration, local art and food vendors and The Kiddie Koal Mine, among other activities. A new addition to the festival is the S.H.I.F.T. Car Show. The evening will end with a bang as Zambelli fireworks light the night sky. Tickets for the Coal and Coke Festival are on sale. The first exhibitions of the fall semester at the Creative Arts Center’s Mesaros Galleries are works by nationally recognized African American artists Nyame Brown, a painter and printmaker from South Bend, Ind., and Thaddeus Mosley, a sculptor from Pittsburgh. Both exhibitions will be open through Oct. 6. All Mesaros Galleries events, including art lectures, exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public. The 59th annual Farmers and Threshermen’s Jubilee will be held Wednesday through Sept. 11 at New Centerville near Somerset.
