Open house set at Adult Daily Living Center
An open house will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23 at Fayette County Community Action Agency’s (FCCAA) Adult Daily Living Center, located at 910 First St., Hiller.
Mary Budinsky, the center’s project manager, said the public will have an opportunity to tour the recently renovated facility.
“We’re hoping that we have at least 100 people come through the center for the open house,” she said. “There will be a guest sign-in sheet.”
Budinsky said she has invited hospital officials, doctor’s offices, caseworkers, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging, behavioral health offices and state legislators to tour the facility during the open house.
Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include a small hoagie, potato salad, coffee, punch and cake.
“The lunch will be served free of charge to anyone who attends,” she said. “Brochures providing information about the center and other programs available at Community Action will be available to the public.”
Budinsky said the center currently has 11 people who attend on a regular basis, but she explained that the center has enough space to accommodate another 16 people.
For the past 17 years, Budinsky said the center has accepted residents age 60 or older who meet eligibility requirements and face mental or physical challenges.
The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but other arrangements can be made as needed.
Budinsky, who is a certified nursing assistant, said the program offers a stimulating alternative to daytime home life for adults facing declines in physical, social, emotional or mental abilities.
At the center, she said participants enjoy both group activities and individualized assistance. These activities help participants to become more independent through physical and mental exercises.
Budinsky said participants play games at the center, including automatic bowling, pool and ring toss. The center also offers a walking program and sing-along.
About a dozen people come to the center on a regular basis, which varies from two to four days a week. The Area Agency on Aging funds meals for participants.
Reservations for the open house are required by Sept. 20. To register, call 724-785-9420.
