A busy autumn in Greene

6 min read

…The Messenger has been a-buzzing with info about the many fall events that are happening in and around Greene County throughout the upcoming autumn season. I mentioned recently in my column that I wanted to encourage folks to let us know about upcoming events, and you have not disappointed. In fact, here’s a reminder about several special events that are happening this coming weekend and throughout the month of September…

…The 41st annual Covered Bridge Festival will be held Sept. 17 and 18 at the White Covered Bridge in Garards Fort and the Carmichaels Covered Bridge in Carmichaels. Crafters, Civil War re-enactments, live entertainment, and home cooking are just some of the attractions at these two festivals.

By the way, speaking of entertainment at the bridge festivals, I wanted to give a “shout-out” to a friend named Ron Stone who happens to be a very talented local musician and performs in the band “Gone South,” one of the many talented bands, singers and musicians who will be performing at both festivals. “Gone South” will be performing at the White Covered Bridge Festival on Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. The band is terrific, and those who enjoy fun classic and southern rock music will get a kick out of these guys. For more info about the band, visit www.thebandgonesouth.com, or find them on Facebook.

Incidentally, Ron also plays in another great band, the Justin Fabus Band, a Pittsburgh-based modern country band with a rock n’ roll edge. The band is quickly becoming a top country act in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, and will be opening for national recording artist Bryan Cole in November, and has recently released their debut single “Leaving Kind,” which can be requested on Froggy Radio. For more info about them, check out their website, www.justinfabusband.com.

(Oh, and if you need to have your desktop or laptop computer fixed, then believe it or not Ron Stone is the guy you should call. The multi-talented jack of all trades — who is also known as “Mr. Quickfix” — is excellent at cleaning up computers that operate too slowly or don’t operate at all. Give him a call for all of your computer needs at 724-627-6497.)

Anyway, the Covered Bridge Festivals should be a great time for people of all ages, so we hope that Greene County residents find the time to attend one or both of the events. For more info, contact Alan and Dorothy Vozel at 724-966-8993 (Carmichaels Bridge) or Cheryl Clark at 724-966-2357 (White Covered Bridge)…
