Librarian’s Corner
Beautiful time of year, isn’t it? The flowering trees are nearly done, but weren’t they gorgeous?
A reminder to all that the primary election will be held in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, April 24 and the Uniontown Public Library will be closed that day. Don’t forget to vote. Never before has our country’s future needed the voices of all of us.
We have a little suggestion box on the circulation desk at the library for you to tell us what types of books and materials you’d like to see more of in the library. Obviously, we cannot acquire all we want, so we try to meet the needs of as many patrons as we can. We do not have a budget for DVDs and movies, but many have been donated to us. If you find you are no longer watching many of the DVDs you own, consider giving them to the library. They will be added to our collection.
While we are talking about donating materials to the library, we find that our young adult collection is gaining users. Some titles see heavy use, so we could use extra copies. If your teen has read all the books they own and wants to give some away, consider the library.
Keep in mind that if we do not have a particular book or topic in our collection, we can borrow from other Pennsylvania libraries for free. Bring us the titles you are looking for, and we will put out a request for them.
Good news for sports fans! George Von Benko, author of the Memory Lane columns in HeraldStandard.com and a book containing a few of his sports figures, has told us his second book, “Memory Lane: Volume II,” will be ready by early June and available here for sale. Watch this column for the announcement of its arrival.
If you have never visited the Fayette County Sports Hall of Fame, you are missing a walk through Fayette County’s sports history. It is located on the second floor of the Uniontown Public Library and is free to visit. Memorabilia from former players, as well as the plaques of inductees to the Hall of Fame are displayed. Come and see.
Our Wednesday and Thursday story times are popular and fun for the children and parents. Come by at 11 a.m. either day for a treat, stories and a craft.
Come see us in the library, enjoy a walk in the spring weather and smile at strangers.
