Stage version of “Young Frankenstein” comes to WVU
The award-winning adaptation of Mel Brooks’ film classic “Young Frankenstein” will take to the WVU Creative Arts Center stage Thursday.
“Young Frankenstein” tells the story of Frederick Frankenstein, grandson of deranged genius Victor Von Frankenstein.
Uprooted from New York City, the young doctor finds himself in hilariously troubled straits when he continues his grandfather’s work and revives a deranged monster. Through a series of amusing encounters, the cast digs up plenty of laughs along the way.
This lively musical features memorable tunes like “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and the unforgettable treatment of Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ On the Ritz.”
The movie earned two Academy Award nominations, including one for Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder’s script, and was also nominated for a Writer’s Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
That success has continued into the musical adaptation, which has earned three Tony Award nominations, four Drama Desk nominations and a consideration for Best Musical Show Album at the 2008 Grammys.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, online at ticketmaster.com, or by calling 304-293-SHOW and 800-745-3000.
