Experience the magic and mystery of illusionist Leon Etienne at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Maggie Hardy Magerko auditorium in the Community Center at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. Etienne’s performances combine dramatic illusions with theatrical effects to put a new spin on classic magic tricks. This event is free and open to the public. Shelly McCombie and her band Sundance will play country, classic rock and contemporary pop for the Storey Square Summer Concert Series Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Uniontown. 30 East Main will be on hand selling chicken or turkey wraps, pop and water, and for dessert, Wanna Waffle will be offering fruit, chocolate chip or plain waffles. Like other weeks, volunteers from the State Theatre will be selling popcorn and members of the Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority will be selling ice cream. Fayette Friends of Animals will be the featured non-profit. For a fundraiser, they will raffle off two canvas tote bags made and donated by Hibbs Awning.The Sept. 13 concert will feature the Kennick-Hall Band, with The Grotto selling food. The weekly event is coupled with the Fayette County Buy Local Network’s Uniontown Farmers Market, which begins at 4 p.m. and is held on Main Street directly in front of Storey Square. The market will run through Sept. 20 and will feature fresh fruits and vegetables.
Time for Three will bring its unique musical style to the WVU Creative Arts Center Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Time for Three transcends traditional classification. Classically trained at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute for Music, Tf3 boasts a varied repertoire of music that includes classical, country-western, gypsy, jazz and the occasional hip-hop riff. Pittsburgh comedian Amy Capiross is staging a benefit show tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Greensburg’s Palace Theatre for the victims of the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colo. The three-hour show will consist of a mixture of comedy, magic and music. “Whistler and Rebellion in the Art World” continues this month in Gallery One of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. This exhibition presents the museum’s major painting and impressive collection of Whistler’s aesthetically radical prints and drawings revealing the evolution of his career in relation to his place in the 19th-century art world. This weekend marks the last opportunity for active military personnel to take advantage of the Blue Star Museum program, which entitles them and four guests to free admission to the Carnegie Museums and the Andy Warhol Museum. Discover the diversity of musical insects on Sept. 6 at Ten Mile Creek County Park. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Audia Shelter, learn how crickets, grasshoppers, katydids and cicadas create sounds.
Afterward, strike off armed with sweep nets and bug jars in search of musical insects living in a nearby meadow. Long pants, shoes that cover your feet and long sleeved shirts are recommended. Pre-registration is required. Call the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation at 724-228-6867 to pre-register. There is no fee for the program. Ten Mile County Park is located off Clarksville Road just outside of Fredericktown.
The Greensboro Borough Farmers’ Fair and Market will be held tomorrow and every Saturday through Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greensboro Gazebo on Front Street in Greensboro. Farmers and vendors from last year will be on hand as well as some new faces. The market includes fresh honey, fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, meats, gourmet products, plants, flowers, coffee and teas, handmade lotions and soaps and Lardin House sandwiches. Nonprofit groups are always welcome to showcase their events and programs or to raise funds for their organization. Every week, local musicians are featured and children’s activities are available. Local artists wishing to demonstrate their crafts are welcome. Musicians are always needed to perform. Fuzzy Randolph will be speaking about and showing Waynesburg University Museum Artifacts representing the River Towns on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Log Cabin. The Northern West Virginia Model Train Show will be held tomorrow, Sunday and Monday at the Rowlesburg Ambulance Function Hall in Rowlesburg, W.Va., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society will display and demonstrate its HO scale Modular Model Railroad layout at this event, as well as operate steam and diesel locomotives and freight and passenger equipment.
