The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a Winter Owl Prowl at Mingo Creek Park at 7 p.m. today at shelter four.

Those attending will trek over and across Mingo Creek Park’s winter landscape listening for the vocalization of the Eastern Screech Owl and the Barred Owl after dark. With no leaves on the trees, this should be an excellent opportunity to hear and perhaps see an owl up close, a spokesman for the parks and recreation department said.

Participants should dress for the weather and moderate hiking. The Winter Owl Prowl will be held, weather permitting.

Space is limited and reservations are required by calling the park and recreation department at 724-228-6867.

Mingo Creek Park is located off Route 136 12 miles east of Washington.
