Librarian’s Corner
What is that old adage? March will come in like a lion and go out a lamb; but if it comes in like a lamb, we will see it go out like a lion? If you recall, March 1 was a lovely day, so prepare to bundle up on the 31st.
I’m very excited about an upcoming event here in Uniontown.
The weekend of March 22, 23 and 24 the Uniontown High School is presenting the musical “9 to 5” in the Margaret A. Emelson Auditorium.
As you may recall, this musical performance is based on the 1980 movie made popular by Dolly Parton as the lead character. Dolly wrote the music and lyrics, and the movie was based on a book written by Patricia Resnick.
Co-directors Megan Cerullo and Pam Howarth have gone a step further with a cooperative effort that will raise funds for our local Dolly Parton Imagination Library project. Students at the high school have been donating the change from their lunch purchases and have raised almost $50 thus far. It warms the heart to see these students giving back to their younger counterparts so that they will have books of their own to read.
The performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 22 and 23, and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 24. All donations are accepted from the public at each show, and a table will be set up with information, applications and samples of the books the children receive through the program.
All seats for the musical are $10, so come out and support not only our local senior high students, but the children under five who benefit from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library project.
Did you receive a newsletter from the Friends of the Library last week?
Last year, the Friends donated $10,902 to the Uniontown Public Library to assure the success of our top-notch Summer Reading program, provided assistance in purchasing large print books and other needed projects. With a new automation project on the horizon, the Friends have already made a donation this year toward that major purchase.
Please consider a contribution to the Friends now by mailing a check to them at 24 Jefferson St., Uniontown, and plan to attend their next meeting at 1 p.m. Monday here in the library. All are welcome; men and women both.
Come see us in the library, mark your calendar for “9 to 5” and Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss last week.
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” — Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
