Mr. McFeely brings ‘Speedy Delivery’ to Cal U
David Newell, also known as Mr. McFeely of televison’s “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” will bring his “speedy delivery” to California University of Pennsylvania on Monday.
From 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Newell will appear for a presentation in Steele Hall Mainstage Theatre. He will introduce “Speedy Delivery,” a 70-minute documentary about his current work – traveling around the world as Mr. McFeely to share Fred Rogers’ message.
Newell will address the audience before and after the film, appearing in character for part of the talk. A question-and-answer session is planned.
Newell’s presentation is open to the public. Admission is free, and he will sign autographs after the talk.
In addition to his role as Mr. McFeely — the messenger whose catchphrase was a cheery “Speedy delivery!” — Newell was in charge of production for 130 episodes of the award-winning children’s television show created by Fred Rogers.
He continues to serve as public relations director for The Fred Rogers Co., created to build on Rogers’ legacy through a wide variety of media and to engage new generations of children and families with the timeless wisdom of Mister Rogers.
Newell’s appearance will cap off a full day of activities that includes storytelling at The Village preschool and child care center, a visit with elementary-school children from California Area School District, and a session with Cal U students, faculty and staff. At some of his stops, Newell will be accompanied by Purple Panda and puppets from the TV show.
