Westmoreland Cultural Trust invites the community to their inaugural golf outing, “Golfin’ A Round for the Arts,” to be held May 21 at the Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg. Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh will honor veterans with a special memorial May 27 on the USS Requin, docked on the Ohio River. Led by veterans of USS VI Requin Base, the ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with the Beaver County Stearman Association performing a flyover with a vintage Stearman World War II-era biplane, weather permitting. The event is free to the general public, who are encouraged to watch from the Ohio River shore. The memorial is expected to last about an hour, and admission to the submarine will be free all day.
Join the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation for a “Dog-gone Hike” at Mingo Creek Park at 6:30 p.m. May 30, starting at the “No Leash Area” parking lot. Get a little exercise while letting your dog(s) mingle with other dogs. After taking your furry friends on a hike, end with some play time in the No Leash Area. (All dogs must be on a leash at all times except in the designated No Leash Area). Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling the Washington County Parks and Recreation office at 724-228-6867.
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will present “Farmers at Phipps” every Wednesday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. beginning June 6 and lasting through the end of October. Now in its fourth year, “Farmers at Phipps” is one of only a few area farmers’ markets dedicated to offering only organic or CNG products.
