GREENSBURG — The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presents the Young People’s Concert “Storm Chasers” Oct. 30 at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg, with shows at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. While these concerts are performed for third through fifth grade students, the concert is open to the general public.

Morrie Brand, managing director of the WSO said, “One of the highlights for the orchestra is bringing children in from around the region to experience classical music in a format they will truly enjoy. I would encourage parents and teachers to ask their schools to participate so their children don’t miss this very unique educational experience.”

WSO Artistic Director Daniel Meyer will conduct the programs, which feature Wagner’s Flying Dutchman Overture, Debussy’s Nuages and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony. Also on the program is Grofé Cloudburst and On the Trail from Grand Canyon Suite and Thunder and Lightning Polka from Strauss. Meyer is the music director of the Erie Philharmonic.

The featured guest artist is violinist Inori Sakai of Greensburg, who will perform Vivaldi’s “Winter” Concerto from the Four Seasons. Sakai is a high school junior at The Ellis School in Pittsburgh.

She serves as the concertmaster in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets may be purchased at the door or reserved by calling the WSO Office at 724-837-1850.
