The Flenniken Public Library board of directors will host a wine tasting event tomorrow at the Carmichaels Senior Center at 100 Nemacolin Road in Carmichaels at 6 p.m. The event will feature Greene County’s own wineries: Shields Demesne Winery and Thistlethwaite Vineyards and the Ripepi Winery & Vineyard from Monongahela. Bob Podish will provide guitar and vocal music. Tickets may be purchased at the library, from members of the board, or online at www.flenniken.org. Proceeds will go to support the operating expenses of the library as it carries out its mission to provide access to information, entertainment and literacy skills to the community. California University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “An Evening of One-Acts,” a series of creative short plays directed by students. Curtain time is 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow. All performances are in the Gerald and Carolyn Blaney Theatre in Steele Hall. The department’s first performance of the Fall 2012 semester features plays that may be irreverent or enlightening, but always entertaining. Subject matter may not be suitable for young children. The student directors are Kara Burkhart, Breanna Otto and Sam Silva. Bridget Rogan is the stage manager. The Fayette County Law Library’s October artist of the month is Ed Cope, retired chief photographer for the Herald Standard newspaper. Cope’s photos are on view this month in the law library located on the second floor of the Fayette County Courthouse. The public is welcome, admission is free and hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. November’s artist will be Monica Sweet of Uniontown, a slate painter and a member of the Uniontown Art Club.

This Wednesday and every Wednesday at 8 p.m., visit Jozart Center for the Arts in California for its weekly Open Mic Night. Free and open to musicians, performers and their fans, this event is alcohol and smoke free and is suitable for all ages. For more information, call 724-938-9730.

A two-day arts and crafts festival will be held at The Lardin House Inn in Masontown tomorrow and Sunday. Beginning at 11 a.m. both days, experience arts and crafts, sample delicious food and enjoy great entertainment during this event which benefits local non-profit organization Domestic Violence of SWPA. The Geyer Performing Arts Center will hold auditions for its December show, The Nutcracker, tomorrow. Audition times are as follows: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (ages 6-10), 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (ages 11-14) and 2-4 p.m. (ages 15 and up). Girls with pointe experience and experience in different styles of dance are encouraged to come to the 2 p.m. audition if they are over the age of 13. Directors Darlene Trout and John Wagner are seeking children, teens and young adults with previous dance experience, especially ballet, to be part of this production. Audtionees should bring ballet and jazz shoes to the audition and should arrive warmed up and ready to dance. Individuals with pointe and tap experience should bring those shoes as well. Additionally, the directors are looking to cast adult performers as “party guests.” Adults should come prepared for a basic movement audition. The “Vote for Reel” film festival continues this week at Penn State Fayette – The Eberly Campus with two politically charged films: “The War Room,” which will be shown Tuesday, and “Wag the Dog,” which will be shown on Thursday. The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra inaugural Chamber Music Concert Series features the Curtis Piano Trio tonight at the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg’s Mary Lou Campana Chapel and Lecture Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Curtis Piano Trio is comprised of Nigel Armstrong, John-Henry Crawford and Ashley Hsu. The trio will play Schubert Trio in E Flat Major D 929. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

From the Top, the preeminent showcase for young musicians heard weekly on Classical WQED-FM 89.3 Saturdays at 5 p.m., comes to The Palace Theatre in Greensburg to tape a radio broadcast Sunday at 3 p.m. The popular NPR program hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley will feature the performances and personal stories of young classical musicians from across the country. WVU Arts & Entertainment has rescheduled the Martina McBride concert at the WVU Creative Arts Center set for tomorrow. The Martina McBride concert has been rescheduled to Jan. 12, 2013. Ticketholders are advised to keep their tickets from the Oct. 20 date. These tickets will be honored at the Jan. 12 show.
