MVH announces events for remainder of September
Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) is sponsoring a variety of informative programs during the month of September. Many of the events will be held in the hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center (ECC), 1163 Country Club Road, Monongahela, unless otherwise noted. Activities that will take place the remainder of the month include:
Sept. 16 to 31
National Childhood Injury Prevention Month
Daily except Sundays — Healthy Directions at the Finleyville Giant Eagle. Stop by the in-store medical facility to see a video on shaken baby syndrome. For hours or more information, call 724-348-6699.
Monday
Cancer Support Group
2 p.m. — 7-East Family Room. This support group is free and open to all cancer patients, survivors, families and caregivers. For more information, call 724-258-1704.
Wednesday
Lookalike Drug Awareness Day
7 a.m to 3 p.m. – Healthy Directions at the Finleyville Giant Eagle. The “What’s in your child’s backpack?” looks at nicotine made to look like mints and other health hazards that target innocent, young students. For more information, call 724-348-6699.
Advanced Carbohydrate Counting
9 to 11 a.m. – ECC. Diabetes self-management class that focuses on everything you need to know about carb counting. Topics range from how to measure the upward drive each meal has on blood sugar to information on the glycemic index. Completion of the three-day Diabetes Self-Management Training (Sept. 11 to 13) is required prior to attending this class. Registration is required at least one week prior to the start of the class. Diabetes Support Group
6 to 8 p.m. – ECC. The featured topic is “Keeping Your Kidneys Healthy.” This support program is free for all diabetics, their families and caregivers. Advanced registration is required by calling 724-258-1483.
Wednesday Sept. 19, 26
Childbirth Preparation Class
7 to 9 p.m. — Mon-Vale HealthPLEX, Rostraver. A four-week series of prenatal education classes designed to prepare couples for the birthing process. Topics include: signs of labor, vaginal and C-section deliveries, role of the labor coach, comfort measures including breathing and relaxation skills and pain medication options. Couples will rehearse what they learn in class to help relieve anxiety surrounding the birthing experience. Classes are free to Valley Women’s Health (VWH) patients; a fee applies to non-VWH patients. To register, call 724-258-2229 ext. 25.
Thursday
Ostomy Support Group
2 p.m. – ECC. This support group is free and open to all persons with ostomies and their families and friends. For more information, call 724-258-1773.
Saturday
Car Seat Safety Check
10 a.m. to noon – Healthy Directions at the Finleyville Giant Eagle. Certified personnel will be available at the in-store medical facility to inspect infant and toddler car seats. To register for an inspection, call 724-348-6699.
