The Laurel Highlands Harvest Festival is set for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Christian W. Klay Winery in Chalk Hill. This year’s festival has a salsa theme and will feature salsa music, dance and food prepared by The Stone House Restaurant and Country Inn as well local wine tastings. There is a fee for admission. A free, family friendly concert will close out the season at Rices Landing’s Riverfront Park tomorrow from 5 to 9 p.m. New age alternative rock group The Split will perform under the Gazebo. At 5:30 p.m. the Rivers of Steel Heritage Corp. will open the doors to the historic 1900 W. A. Young & Sons Foundry and Machine Shop for free tours and the chance to see the historic but still working machinery at full volume. The Lock 6 Museum in the Rices Landing Borough Building will also be open that evening. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call 724-603-3151.

This Wednesday and every Wednesday at 8 p.m., visit Jozart Center for the Arts in California for weekly Open Mic Night. Free and open to musicians, performers and their fans, this event is alcohol and smoke free and is suitable for all ages. For more information, call 724-938-9730.

Mountain Watershed Association is hosting a free children’s fishing derby and a Rubber Ducky Race fundraiser on Saturday at Resh Park in Indian Head. The fun begins at 10 a.m. with the start of the Children’s Fishing Derby. Kids 12 and under may participate with adult supervision. This event is free. Lunch will be provided around 11:45 a.m. Participants must bring their own rod and tackle. Bait will be provided. Pre-registration is appreciated. At 1:30 p.m., the annual Rubber Ducky Fundraiser will begin, and a thousand rubber ducks will race down Indian Creek. The seventh annual Classic Car Show benefiting St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church’s maintenance fund will be held Sunday at the church at 185 E. Main St., Uniontown. Registration begins at noon and ends at 2 p.m., with the car show taking place from 2 to 4 p.m. The first 150 registered participants will receive dash plaques and gifts. Thirty trophies will be awarded, including eight best of class. DJ Arnie Amber will provide music and food will be available. On-site transportation will be available.

On Sunday, women from the tri-state area are invited to Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville for the sixth annual Shoe Bash. From 2 to 5 p.m. famous-maker shoes and handbags will be given away every 15 minutes. Between drawings, guests will have the opportunity to purchase accessories from local and international vendors. Food will be served and auction items will also be available. Ashley Hardway of WTAE will be a special guest. There is a fee for tickets. All the proceeds benefit The Village, a non-profit preschool and daycare that provides services for single parents who are enrolled in full-time education programs to improve the lives of their families. Pittsburgh Mini Maker Faire, an all-ages festival featuring do-it-yourself local makers ranging from roboticists to guerilla knitters to kid inventors and more, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Buhl Community Park and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Celebrating the best of DIY, the 2012 Pittsburgh Mini Maker Faire will host 65 exhibits, performances and workshops for the event, including: HackPittsburgh, The Great American Horn Machine, 3D, Touchstone Center for Crafts, a Children’s Innovation Project, Handheld Tesla, Wearables Fashion Show, Learn to Solder, iOTOS and Hot Air Engines, plus wind turbines, weather-predicting kites, bike-powered energy, human mad-libs and much more. This weekend, visitors to Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, part of the Senator John Heinz History Center museum system, will get a firsthand look at the everyday lives of 16th century American Indians as part of the fourth annual American Indian Heritage Weekend. The popular weekend features a variety of re-enactors who will demonstrate traditional American Indian skills and bring Meadowcroft’s 16th century Indian Village to life. Visitors can explore the interior of a wigwam, inspect carefully recreated prehistoric artifacts, learn about American Indian agriculture and try their hand at using an atlatl, a prehistoric spear thrower. Throughout the outdoor hands-on weekend, the Meadowcroft visitor’s center will also host a special exhibit with works by local artist Andrew Knez Jr.

The Sagebrush Round-Up will host an open stage at 6 p.m. tomorrow, followed by performances by Gale Ford, Rick Henry, Confederate Country, Ryan Cain and the Ables and the Round-Up band. A Public Star Party will be held Saturday at the Mingo Creek Observatory located near Shelter 10 in Mingo Creek County Park. Bring your friends and family to discover the wonders of the heavens from this dark sky location. The program will begin at dusk. Viewing will take place as long as there is a partly clear sky. If it’s raining or cloudy, the program will be canceled. There is no fee for the program and reservations are not required. For more information, go online to www.3ap.org. Mingo Creek Park is located off of Route 136 east of Washington.

Carnegie Science Center invites visitors to “warm up” for the Dollar Bank Junior Great Race at Highmark SportsWorks tomorrow from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors will have an opportunity to race some of Pittsburgh’s local mascots at the Olympic Sprint exhibit. Mascots making an appearance will include Iceburgh, Pirate Parrot, and the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium’s Shark and Polar Bear. Q92.9 will be onsite to emcee the event. The “warm-up” event is free with general admission to the Science Center. While onsite, visitors will also be able to pick up an application for the 17th annual Dollar Bank Junior Great Race, which will be held at Point State Park on Sunday. The race will kick off at noon and will feature a one-mile family fun run, a 50-yard tot trot, and a diaper dash. The event includes raffle prizes, favorite mascots, face painters, strolling performers, and a goody bag and medal for each child.
