Award-winning gospel trio The Martins will perform Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown.

The multi-Dove award winning and Grammy nominated family gospel trio The Martins are making more than just another tour stop during their Oct. 6 visit to The State Theatre for the Arts.

Sponsored by Triumphant Fellowship Church, the 7 p.m. performance will benefit the church’s youth group.

“We decided to have The Martins perform after seeing them during their previous performance with Jason Crabb,” Theresa Byers, youth group leader said.

“As a youth group, we’re supporting bringing Christian music back into Fayette County.”

Byers explained the youth group will use the funds for future trips and events.

“We want to bring gospel music back into Fayette County and invite more of Fayette County into a youth program,” Byers said.

The Martins are certainly at the forefront of Southern gospel music, winning multiple Dove awards, including past wins for Southern Gospel Album of the year and Southern gospel single of the year.

Singer Joyce Martin wants concert attendees to know that even fans new to gospel music will find something to love about the evening’s concert.

“You’re going to hear a little bit of everything,” Martin said. “If music moves you, then you can enjoy a Martins’ concert. Once we hit the stage you realize you could go shopping with us, you could go to a ball game with us. You could even have coffee with us. It’s just a relaxed great time.”

Since releasing their modern country album “New Day” with the help of producer and Rascall Flats member Jay DeMarcus in 2011, the group has been touring while beginning an a cappella project.

Attendees of the Oct. 6 concert may get a small taste of that upcoming project when the Martins take the stage, as their live performances usually include a few a cappella numbers.

“[Performing live is] definitely a different animal and really fun,” Martin said. “There’s nothing like performing live on stage. The best part about working with your siblings is you never have to worry if they’re going to do their job.”

As the Martins began performing early in life, they too realized the impact a youth group setting can have on a young mind.

“We were singing in our home church and as teenagers our mom left it [singing career] up to us,” Martin said. “Church members poured into our lives and encouraged us and tried to lead us in our walk of faith.”

Whether you’re a first time fan or a long-time follower, The Martins believe their music has wide appeal. Their extensive back catalog has something for all ages.

“Young people just love great music and we give them that,” Martin said. “When our music is mixed in with what they’re exposed to, it’s just a really good filter.”

Further, they’re eager to help the Triumphant Fellowship Church’s youth group.

“It’s a good cause and it benefits an area of kids that may not have these opportunities otherwise,” Martin said. “Life is so hard and so disappointing at times and life has hit us hard, too. When we hit the stage, the only difference you’ll see is we have a microphone.”
