Greene County Senior Expo Set for Oct. 5 at county fairgrounds

2 min read

State. Sen. Tim Solobay, D-North Strabane, along with the Greene County Board of Commissioners and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging (SWPAAA) will host the first annual Greene County Senior Expo Oct. 5 at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

“The Greene County Senior Expo will be a one-stop shop for information that is pertinent to our older residents,” Solobay said. “Today’s seniors are healthier and more active than ever before, and there are many changes on the horizon at both the state and national levels of government. This expo will provide participants with resources geared toward their interests and needs.”

Solobay added the Senior Expo will include two seminars on obtaining proper identification.

“My senatorial district represents a diverse population, including a large number of seniors. While we await the outcome of the State Supreme Court battle that could strike down the law, I am committed to helping ensure that the many senior constituents in my district who could be affected have the proper ID so that they can cast their ballots on election day,” he said.

In addition to the voter ID seminars, the Senior Expo will feature dozens of vendors who will provide health screenings and materials on available programs of interest to older adults.

Pam Snyder, chairwoman of the Greene County Board of Commissioners, expressed her enthusiasm and support for the Senior Expo, noting that the county commissioners provided resources to help make the event possible.

“The Greene County Commissioners are very pleased to partner with Senator Solobay and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging on this very important event,” she said. “We hope many senior citizens in Greene County take advantage of this opportunity. Because of the rural nature of the county, the Senior Expo offers access to important services, such as health screenings and flu shots that might otherwise be difficult to obtain.”

There is no charge to attend the Greene County Senior Expo, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include light refreshments. The voter ID seminars will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Greene County Fairgrounds are located between Route 21 (Roy Furman Highway) and Route 188 (Jefferson Road) at 107 Fairgrounds Road, Waynesburg. For more information, call Solobay’s Greene County office at 724-627-9802, SWPAAAA Waynesburg’s office at 724-852-1510 or the Greene County Commissioners at 724-852-5210.
