Uniontown man sentenced in sex assault
A Uniontown man who was acquitted by a Fayette County jury of 14 of 15 charges against him in the alleged sexual assault of a mentally challenged woman in September 2012 was sentenced on Tuesday on the only remaining count against him.
Bill Greene, 19, was found not guilty of two counts of rape, three counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault, four counts of aggravated indecent assault and one count each of sexual assault and terroristic threats. The jury could not reach a verdict on an indecent assault charge that dealt with consent.
This September, Greene pleaded guilty to that remaining count.
Fayette County Judge Steve P. Leskinen accepted a plea deal struck between Assistant Public Defender Mary Campbell Spegar and Assistant District Attorney Linda Cordaro that sentenced Greene to six to 12 months of incarceration for the indecent assault charge.
Greene was given credit for time served behind bars following his arrest and was subsequently eligible for immediate parole.
Leskinen said that Greene will spend the next 15 years abiding by laws for registered sex offenders as a result of his plea.
Greene was charged by Uniontown police after a 21-year-old woman alleged she woke up in her bed, and Greene, whom she knew, was having sex with her.
The woman, whom Cordaro said at the time of trial has the intellect of an 8-year-old, also said Greene threatened her with pocket knifes. The woman testified in a convoluted manner, sometimes answering questions one way, and then another during her testimony, and confusing the definitions of oral and vaginal sex.
Greene, who testified in his own defense, told jurors that he believed he was in a relationship with the woman, when police alleged the assault occurred. He told jurors that the woman suggested having sex. Greene, who told jurors he was 17 years old and in the eighth grade, testified the woman never told him to stop.
Leskinen said Greene is also forbidden from having contact with the woman while a registered sex offender.
The Herald-Standard does not identify the victims of sexual assault.
