Volunteers needed to help feed hungry children this summer
Volunteers are needed to help feed hungry kids age 18 and under in Fayette County.
The Summer Food Service Program for Kids is a project being promoted by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, in conjunction with Fayette County Community Action Agency Inc. (FCCAA), local churches, nonprofit agencies and schools.
The federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education will provide summer fun and free, healthy meals for kids.
Volunteers are currently needed to serve food and provide fun activities at the following Smithfield sites:
n Jarrett Brothers Mobile Home Park, Jarrett Drive off Route 119, 12:30 to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
n Outcrop, 135 Mark Drive, 11 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Volunteers are also needed at these Uniontown and New Salem sites:
n New Salem Presbyterian Church, 27 S. Mill St., New Salem. The dates and times will be announced.
n Calvary Baptist Church, 308 McCellandtown Road, Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays June 18 through Aug. 16.
n Surrey Hill Apartments, 501 Surrey Hill Drive. The days and times will be announced.
n Uniontown YMCA, 1 YMCA Lane, June 10 to Aug. 16. Lunch will be served at noon.
Summer feeding sites will open during the week of June 17 and will run until mid-August.
