Zoning violation regarding campaign signs withdrawn
The zoning violation issued to one of Fayette County’s two newly nominated judges regarding campaign signs posted during the months leading up to the May primary was withdrawn Wednesday.
Judge-elect Joseph M. George Jr. appealed the zoning violation notice he received in April regarding campaign signs, arguing the signs fell under a section of the zoning ordinance pertaining specifically to political signage.
Before Wednesday’s scheduled hearing began, Sheryl Heid, solicitor for the county’s planning and zoning office, made a motion to withdraw the enforcement notice. George offered no objection, and the board granted the request.
On April 12, the county zoning office sent George a notice citing “various properties” for violating Section 305 of the county zoning ordinance, which deals with restricted signage, including prohibiting signage attached to parked trailers or vehicles.
In the petition that George filed requesting an appeal hearing before the zoning board, he stated the signs are permitted as part of the zoning ordinance which delineates provisions for political signs.
