Police probe shooting in Uniontown

Uniontown police said they are investigating after a Uniontown man was shot during a drug deal gone bad late Sunday.

Chief Jason A. Cox said the shooting occurred sometime before midnight at the intersection of Searight Avenue and Dunlap Street when the victim, Robert Harry, approached a man who had sold him narcotics in the past.

Cox said that Harry showed the man that he had money, but instead of selling him drugs, the suspect, who police have not been able to identify, grabbed the cash and began to fight with Harry.

Harry said that during the tussle, the man pulled out a pistol and pointed it at Harry’s chest, Cox said.

Harry told police that he grabbed the barrel of the gun and pointed it down toward the ground and that while pushing the gun down it fired.

Cox said that Harry was struck in the right thigh by the shot.

Harry then fled the area in his car and drove himself to Excela Health-Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant for treatment.

Cox said officers are continuing to investigate the incident and said anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
