Teen charged in bizarre incident
A 17-year-old Uniontown boy is facing charges after police say he attempted to steal tires and wheels that were stacked outside a residence in Uniontown, resulting in an injury to a 7-year-old girl riding her bicycle nearby.
Uniontown police said the teen was charged in Fayette County Juvenile Court with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday when the teen attempted to steal a set of four vehicle wheels owned by Robert Moore of Uniontown from 322 Evans St., Uniontown police Officer Jeremy Schult said.
While placing one of the wheels in the back of a car, Schult said, the teen lost control of the wheel and it went rolling down an alley.
After gaining momentum, police said, the wheel crashed into the young girl who was riding a bicycle, damaging the bike and resulting in minor injuries to the child.
