School registration
The schedule for the Albert Gallatin Area School District Kindergarten Registration will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on following dates and locations: April 28-George J. Plava Elementary; April 29-A. L. Wilson Elementary; April 30-Masontown Elementary; April 30-Friendship Hill Elementary; May 1-D Ferd Swaney Elementary; and May 2-Smithfield Elementary.
To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be five years of age on or before August 31. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six on or before August 31. Children who are currently enrolled in the district’s kindergarten program need not register for first grade.
Parents must present their child’s official “Certificate of Birth” from the state in which their child was born (not the certificate from the hospital), residency verification, and the immunization record at the time of kindergarten registration.
Nominations sought
Laurel Highlands Life Achievement Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Laurel Highlands School District Academic Foundation is accepting nominations for 2014 inductees.
This Life Achievement Hall of Fame was established in the spring of 2012 to recognize and honor outstanding achievement and significant contributions by graduates/students of Laurel Highlands, North Union and South Union, who have made an impact by distinguishing themselves in their career, their community or in society, and/or brought fame or recognition to Laurel Highlands, North and South Union.
Candidates must be 30 years of age, or have graduated in 2002 or before, when nominated. For a nomination form, please visit the Laurel Highlands Web site at www.lhsd.org.

Conference day set
Dr. Charles D. Machesky, Superintendent of Uniontown Area School District, has announced that the third Parent-Teacher Conference Day has been scheduled for Thursday, at all school buildings during the regular school hours.
There will be an early dismissal for all students in grades K-12. The purpose of this Parent-Teacher Conference Day is to encourage parents and guardians to visit with their son’s/daughter’s teachers to discuss concerns, problems, etc. All parents/guardians are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to visit the schools the afternoon of Thursday.
Students will report to school at the regular time and lunches will be served prior to the early dismissal in all buildings.
