Movers 8-10-14

The following information details achievements in education earned by those in the Herald-Standard readership area.
Essay winner
Megan Crawford, an eighth grade student at Lafayette Middle School in the Uniontown Area School District and a daughter of Wayne and Carlene Crawford of Vanderbilt, won the local division of a drug awareness essay contest sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The theme for the contest was “Down with Drugs, Up with Awareness.” Crawford’s essay went on to compete at the state level where she won first place. She presented her essay at the Elks State Association Dinner.
Recent graduate
Jennifer Hensel of Connellsville recently graduated from the University of Houston with a Master of Architecture in architecture.
To study
Michael A. Parlak of Connellsville has been accepted as a member of the 2014 freshman class at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg where he will begin studies in Criminal Justice. A son of Mike and Karen Parlak, he graduated in June from Connellsville Area High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and played baseball, football and basketball.
Scholarship awarded
Lauren Timko of Perryopolis has been named a recipient of a Merit Scholarship from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Timko has been accepted as a member of the 2014 freshman class and plans to study m athematics. A daughter of David Timko and Cheryl Panza, Timko graduated in June from Frazier High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Degrees earned
The Rochester Institute of Technology announced that the following students recently earned degrees: David Anderson of Uniontown, received a bachelor’s degree in physics; Olivia Chrash of Uniontown received a bachelor’s degree in packaging science; Ryan Corathers of Belle Vernon received a bachelor’s degree in information technology; and Matthew Kenney of Waynesburg received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineer technology.
