California Area school directors approve hirings

CALIFORNIA — Members of the California Area School Board met Monday to approve several hirings just before the start of the new school year.

The board voted to hire Danielle Knox to the position of secondary math teacher at the high school, effective Aug. 18. The salary is set at $36,825.

Chester Welc was hired to the position of secondary social studies teacher, effective Aug. 18. The salary is set at $37,125.

Richard Garris was hired for the position of secondary English teacher, effective Aug. 18, at a salary of $36,825.

The board also approved the hiring of Christopher Minerd to the position of athletics director/events manager, effective Aug. 21, for a three year contract. His salary is set at $35,000.

The board also appointed the following to coaching positions:

n Cam Madison as middle school girls basketball coach for a salary of $1,828, which is 80 percent of the bargaining agreement.

n Phil Stewart Sr. was appointed to the position of assistant middle school girls basketball coach for a salary of $1,742.50, which is 85 percent of the bargaining agreement.

Meanwhile, board members also accepted the resignation of Kathy Bakewell from the position of a four-hour teacher aid, and also that of Audreya Stetar from the position of a three-hour cafeteria staff.

Both resignations were effective immediately, and administration has been authorized to post and advertise to fill each position.

The next regular board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 in the high school library.
