Scenery Hill woman killed in hit and run accident

A Scenery Hill woman is dead and an Ellsworth man is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence following a hit-and-run accident in Ellsworth, Friday night.

According to the Washington County coroner’s office, Brittany Marie Chapman, 29, of Ursic Lane, Scenery Hill, was struck by a vehicle while walking along South Main Street in Ellsworth around 8:40 p.m. Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to State Police at Washington, Robert L. Myers Jr., 42, of Ellsworth was the operator of the pickup truck that struck Chapman. Following the accident, the truck fled the scene. The truck was later located, and Myers was taken into custody.

Myers was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Larry Hopkins on charges, including homicide by vehicle while under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle, homicide by vehicle and accidents involving death or injury. He is also charged with DUI, recklessly endangering another person, driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, failure to stop and render aid, failure to notify police of an accident involving injury or death and a number of traffic violations.

Myers is being held without bond at the Washington County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is set before Hopkins on Aug. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
