Lady Falcons defeat rival California, 4-1
Brownsville kept rolling along Wednesday afternoon through the early portion of the Section 1-AA schedule, defeating California, 4-1, for key early season victory.
Brownsville improves to 3-1 in the section after sweeping the doubles matches and winning 2-of-3 singles matches.
The Lady Falcons’ Angie Braznok got things rolling at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Elizabeth Wohar. The Lady Trojans’ Danielle Koehler briefly tied the match with her 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against Mackenzie Swords, but Tiffany Markovitch returned the advantage to the visitors with her 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against Nina Victoria.
Brownsville clinched the section win by sweeping the doubles.
Peyton Jacobs and Becca Bochna teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Lady Trojans’ Rachel Wilkinson and Devan Altman. The Lady Falcons’ No. 2 doubles tandem of Kristie Bulla and Lauren Zelna put the final touches on the win by a 6-1, 6-0 score against Nicole Carson and Hanna Custer.
GOLF
Mike Ragan was medalist Wednesday with a 4-over 38 to lead Elizabeth-Forward to a 206-228 win over Connellsville at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Section 2-AAA play.
The Warriors’ Pat McCall shot a 42. Teammate Mark Simon carded a 42, while Joey Klingensmith finished with a 40 and Brian Himich finished with a 44.
Zach Beneke was the low man for the Falcons, with an 8-over 42. Gavin Swink (44), Jimmy Malone (45), Luke Bruner (48) and Jake Tzan (49) also counted in the final score.
Elizabeth-Forward moves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Section 2-AAA action.
Connellsville (0-4, 0-3) travels to Willowbrook Golf Course today in a Section 2-AAA match-up against Belle Vernon.

Waynesburg Central won a Section 8-AA golf match, 223-244, on Wednesday at Carmichaels Golf Club.
Aaron Yorio was the low man for the Raiders with a 1-over 38. Joel Rohanna carded a 42, while Trey Rohanna finished with a 44. Brandon Turcheck finished with a 48, and Kevin Lin shot a 51.
Tyler Kuntz was the low man for the Bulldogs, also with a 1-over 38. Ryan Beyer (50), Tyler Ross (49), Will Skariot (54) and Tim Teahorst (53) also counted in the final score.
Waynesburg Central is now 3-1 both in Section 8-AA and overall, while Beth-Center slips to 1-2 in section and 1-3 overall.

Mike Kondratik was medalist Wednesday with a 3-over 39 to lead Charleroi to a 227-270 victory over visiting Brownsville at Mon Valley Country Club in Section 8-AA play.
The Cougars’ Josh Sidary shot a 42. Teammate Josiah Fisher carded a 45, while Nick Chapasko finished with a 48 and Dave Kuenzel finished with a 53.
Zane McShane was the low man for the Falcons with a 10-over 46. Jacob Rechichar (53), Dan Mullen (54), Greg Stiner (55) and Mike Adamson (62) also counted in the final score.

Mike Lubrani was medalist Wednesday with a 5-over 40 to lead Belle Vernon to a 212-219 win over Uniontown at Duck Hollow Golf Club in Section 2-AAA play.
The Leopards’ Greg Fedor carded a 41. Teammate Frank Guarinoni shot a 42 and Zach Cicchini shot a 43. Eric Harkins finished with a 46.
Tyler Frazee was the low man for the Red Raiders, finishing with a 6-over 41. Uniontown teammates Devin Morrison, Logan Levander and Callahan Abel each carded 43. Alec Basile also counted in the final score with a 49.
Belle Vernon is now 3-2 overall and 3-1 in Section 2-AAA action.
Uniontown (2-3, 2-2) is hosted by Albert Gallatin today at Duck Hollow Golf Club at 2 p.m. in section play.

Anthony Lovat was medalist on Wednesday with an 8-over 42 to lead the Gators to a 232-275 victory over Jeannette at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Section 2-AA play.
John-Luke Tlumack shot a 44, while teammate Steve Conko carded a 47. Vinny Delsignore finished with a 48 and Matt Emerson finished with a 51.
Anthony Naples was the low man for the Jayhawks with a 13-over 47. Brendt Billeck (52), Lametrius McManus (54), Mary Paulone (57) and Jake Mortimer (65) also counted in Jeannette’s final score.
Geibel Catholic (2-3, 1-3) is hosted by Greensburg Central Catholic Friday at Mount Odin Golf Course in Section 2-AA play.

Albert Gallatin’s Tanner Kutek and Ringgold’s Rob Nemec shared medalist honors Wednesday afternoon, but the Rams held a slight edge with the remaining five golfers for a 240-243 Section 2-AAA home victory at Cedarbrook Golf Course’s Red course.
Kutek and Nemec both finished the front nine on the Red course in 4-over 35.
Neil Hancock (41), David Zitney (42), Calum Hyslop (58), and Brandon Jacobs (60) also factored in the scoring for Ringgold.
Alex Arnold (48), Seth Goletz (46), Tom Victor (56), and Cole Bogozi (54) counted in the Colonials’ final score.
Albert Gallatin (0-4, 1-4) returns to action this afternoon when the Colonials host Uniontown at Duck Hollow Golf Club at 2 p.m. Ringgold improves to 1-2 in the section and 2-2 overall.
