Lady Falcons earn 3-2 win over McGuffey
Max Mears scored the winning goal in double overtime for the Mustangs in a 2-1 victory over Latrobe on Saturday at the Belle Vernon Tournament.
Colby Tarr opened the game with 19:47 left in the first half with a goal for Laurel Highlands.
Latrobe’s Coby Green netted a goal at the 31:54 mark, making the score 1-1.
The game went into double overtime, where Mears scored the final point.
Laurel Highlands starts the season with a 1-0 record.
Girls tennis
The Brownsville girls defeated visiting McGuffey on Friday for a 3-2 Section 1-AA tennis victory.
Angie Braznok won the No. 1 singles match (6-1, 6-1) for Brownsville, while teammate Tiffany Markovitch took the No. 3 spot (6-3, 6-1).
Allie Rose took the No. 2 singles spot for McGuffey, defeating Mackenzie Swords 6-2, 7-5.
The Lady Falcon duo of Becca Bochna and Peyton Jacobs won their No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-2. McGuffey’s team of Rachel Czulewicz and Amber Travis took No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-1.
Brownsville (4-1, 4-1) hosts Greensburg Salem on Tuesday in Section 1-AA play.

The California girls tennis team had a rough road trip Friday afternoon, dropping a 5-0 decision to Greensburg Central Catholic at Greensburg Racquet Club in Section 1-AA action.
The Lady Centurions’ Alyvia Kluska, Michaela Kluska, and Kate Bryan swept the singles matches, all winning 6-0, 6-0.
Kate Fives and Marlayna Verenna won at No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-3) for Greensburg Central Catholic, while teammates Lexi Vittone and Keeley Maloney took the No. 2 double spot (6-0, 6-1).
High school golf
California defeated Beth-Center 222-234 on Friday at Carmichaels Golf Club in Section 8-AA action.
Josh Peters was the low man for the Trojans with a 3-over 40. Matt Amber shot a 42 for California, while teammates Nathaniel Luketich and Jacob Cannon each shot a 44. Cody Mock finished with a 52.
Beth-Center’s Tyler Kuntz was medalist with a 1-over 38. Ryan Beyer and Tyler Ross each finished with a 46. Will Skariot carded a 51 and Tim Teahorst finished with a 53.
Beth-Center (1-3, 1-4) is hosted by Carmichaels on Wednesday at Carmichaels Golf Club in Section 8-AA play.

Olivia Zambruno was medalist on Friday with a 3-under 34 at Mt. Odin Golf Course, leading Greensburg Central Catholic to a 198-239 Section 2-AA victory over Geibel Catholic.
Nick Finoli carded a 1-over 38 for the Centurions, while Lewis Kettering was 2-over with a 39. Brian Uhrin finished with a 42 and Ben Hetzag shot a 45.
Vinny Delsignore and Anthony Lovat each shot a 46 for the Gators. John-Luke Tlumack carded a 48. Teammate Matthew Emerson finished with a 49, while Bailey Miller shot a 50.
Geibel Catholic (1-4, 2-4) will host Frazier on Wedenesday at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Section 2-AA action.
