Bank robber sentenced
A confessed bank robber Monday was sentenced to 14 to 28 months in prison.
Alice Bechtol, 33, of McClellandtown had entered a guilty plea earlier this month to charges of bank robbery, conspiracy and simple assault for the Aug. 22 robbery at the PNC Bank on Morgantown Street in Uniontown.
“I apologize to the community and the courts for what I’ve done,” Bechtol told Judge Linda Cordaro Monday.
Bechtol could have faced up to 10 years in prison for the crime, which netted about $2,000.
Bechtol was ordered to make restitution to the bank for the loss and to a bank customer whose wallet was taken during the robbery.
Bechtol and her co-conspirator, Kendell Johnson, 32, reportedly told police that they were both heavily addicted to heroin and woke up “dope sick” but didn’t have any money to buy more drugs, so they decided to rob the bank.
The two surrendered to state police later that same day.
Bechtol was ordered to serve her sentence at the State Correctional Institution at Muncy, with credit given for the time she has already spent in jail.
