SAB to host annual WU’s Got Talent
A show that started several years ago to entertain on family weekend has grown into something more.
WU’s Got Talent will be hosted by the Students Activities Board On Friday at 8 p.m. in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center. Thirteen acts will perform and attempt to win the grand prize. The grand prize is not only to be named the most talented on Waynesburg’s campus but also $100.
Student senate hosted the annual event last year, but SAB is excited to bring it back.
“It was just a talent show when we started but, over the years it’s grown into a game show,” said Pat Bristor, associate dean of students.
The talent has grown over the years as well. The most common talent is singing although a few odd talents have slipped through the cracks.
“This year we’re going to have a square dance, dance group,” said Bristor.
This year there will be a few surprises for show goers.
The judges for this time around will be secret. It is rumored a super secret judge will shock all that attend.
There will also be a special performance by a celebrity group.
The show will feature acts ranging from singing to dancing and a few comedians. Last years winner “The Snapbacks” are rumored to make an appearance.
“Everything just came to us,” said Dom Zappa, member of “The Snapbacks.” “We only practiced for four total hours.”
The group won in a landslide receiving over 100 votes.
“Go hang out and be loose,” said Zappa. “There’s a time to be competitive and there’s a time to get together with your own close-knit community, like Waynesburg.”
The difference between this show and other shows brought to the campus is that it gives a chance to some who are not able to win one of the other shows.
The campus and SAB has hosted WU Idol, a show a lot like the television show. Also hosted in the past were WU Duets, and a lip sync show. The members of “The Snapbacks” were graduates Maria Albensi and Matt McNeil, seniors Jasmine Blackwell, Dom Zappa and Shelby Tabrosky.
“I feel and I’m sure everyone else would be excited to be guest judges,” said Zappa.
The acts will go and then after each the judges will give their feedback.
Towards the end of the show the audience will vote for who they thought was best.
There will be awards for second and third place winners, even though Bristor said there will only be a cash prize for first place.
“First place will win $100,” said Bristor “Second and third will get something small.”
For all who attend the most interesting act will be a WU’s Got Talent first, a solo drummer. There are rumors that he is getting cold feet and is forming a complete band.
“We just hope that everyone has fun,” said Bristor. “Good luck to all of the acts.”
