Weekly Awards
As both athletes’ respective teams were hitting the home stretch of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference schedule at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse last week, seniors Elaine Hasek and Luke Lohr were awarded Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week honors for their efforts.
Hasek averaged 15.0 points and seven rebounds per game as the Jackets split, one win versus Thiel and one loss versus Westminster, last week. She scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds Wednesday against Thiel, before adding 15 more points Saturday against Westminster on Senior Day.
In her senior season, Hasek has started every game for the Waynesburg women’s basketball team and leads the team in minutes played. While her points per game average and field goal percentage are just third on the team (9.7) and (.379) respectively, Hasek leads the team in rebounding (8.0 per game) and blocks (18).
As the lone senior on the team, Hasek will be counted on as Waynesburg approaches the beginning of the PAC Tournament. The Jackets face Chatham Saturday in Pittsburgh. Coverage of the game can be heard on WCYJ-FM, with tip off beginning at 2 p.m.
Lohr was instrumental in the Waynesburg wrestling squad claiming its second consecutive and fourth PAC Tournament title in the past five years Friday. After flying through the preliminary rounds, Lohr pinned W&J sophomore Trevor Meyers in 5:12 to take the 149-pound individual title. As of Wednesday, Lohr is undefeated wrestling at 149 pounds this season.
As a returning All-American, Lohr and the Jackets will participate in the NCAA Mideast Regional Tournament March 2 at York College.
