Different types of weight loss surgery

By Tara Rack-Amber trackamber@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

According to WebMD the following are a list of weight loss surgeries:

n Gastric banding: The surgeon inserts an inflatable band that squeezes the stomach into a smaller upper pouch and a larger lower section. Majority of people can only eat a half to one cup of food before feeling overly full or sick.

n Sleeve Gastrectomy: The surgeon removes about 75 percent of the stomach. The remaining part of the stomach, a narrow sleeve like section, connects to the small intestines.

n Gastric Bypass Surgery (Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass): This is the most common type of weight loss surgery. The surgeon seals off the upper and lower sections of the stomach. Then, the upper stomach is directly connected to the lower section of the small intestine.

n Biliopancreatic Diversion: This is a more drastic version of a gastric bypass where at least 70 percent of the stomach is removed and bypasses more of the small intestine.
