Annual ball to raise funds for breast exams
Cornerstone Care will once again ask patrons to don their favorite mask and participate in this year’s Pink Masquerade Ball.
The event, which was first held October 2012, will take place from 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Historic Summit Inn Resort in Farmington.
“We want everyone to know it is a fun event and to come out and enjoy it,” said Shelia Shea, outreach specialist at Cornerstone Care.
Last year, the event raised around $5,000 that benefited the Dancing with a Pink Ribbon Breast Health Project that provides free clinical breast exams and educates both men and women on the importance of annual screenings and early detection.
This year’s ball will be hosted by Pittsburgh television news station anchor Michelle Wright and will feature dinner, a silent auction, entertainment by the String of Pearls Dance Troupe and music by N2O2R (Not too Old to Rock).
New to this year’s event, guests are invited to participate in a competition where their masks will be judged looking for the prettiest, most creative and most elaborate masks.
A Belle of the Ball will also be crowned at this year’s event.
“This is the second year doing the Belle of the Ball,” said Shea. “We get roses from the florist, and they are wrapped. All the women pick a rose when they come in. Who gets the purple rose will be the Belle of the Ball and the two who get silver roses are the princesses.”
In addition to providing an evening of fun and entertainment, the event also aims to spread awareness about breast cancer.
“You want to get the awareness and education out there about early detection and how important it is,” said Shea. “We have come across a lot of people who needed to get vouchers because their insurance didn’t cover their mammogram.”
Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased online at dancingwithapinkribbon.com, or by calling 724-852-1001 ext. 305.
